Makhana — the seed of the prickly water lily — has been cultivated in Bihar’s ponds for generations. In 2022, it earned the GI tag as ‘Mithila Makhana,’ cementing the region’s 90% share of India’s global production.
Our home is Purnea, in the Seemanchal belt of eastern Bihar, where shallow ponds and seasonal wetlands are ideal for growing this ancient crop. We work directly with farming families across the belt, paying fair prices and skipping the middlemen.
